HTA has been involved in the regeneration of Clapham Park Estate since 2008 working with the appointed contractor Durkan Limited and Clapham Park Homes to provide architectural and landscape architecture services up to Stage F. The project involves the refurbishment of four existing neo-Georgian London County Council Housing blocks and the associated external works.
The key design principles have revolved around landscape, sustainability and Secured By Design, with the aim of developing a safe, attractive place for residents to continue to enjoy living in. The proposals include the refurbishment of the predominantly tenanted blocks involving the upgrading of internal flats with new kitchens, bathrooms and finishes and services, along with a significant improvement to the external fabric of the building and its surrounding landscape. This includes the upgrading of thermal insulation, new lifts to provide access to all flats, balconies with French doors, double glazed windows and works to the external environment to provide a high quality multi-functional landscape.
Alongside looking at the specific phases of the Heritage Quarter, HTA Architecture’s landscape team have also been involved with the overall landscape masterplan, which has resulted in the a number of strategies for site-wide landscape and strategies such as retention of trees, parking and waste management.
The project has involved the existing residents throughout the whole process with a number of consultation events and survey visits enabling residents to understand the process, and to be able to contribute to the design proposals.
The first phase incorporating three buildings was completed in April 2010, and the next phase is due to start on site in summer 2010.
