HTA Projects

Oakridge Village

HTA partnered with Sentinel Housing Group and Walter Llewellyn, using innovative steel frame construction in the redevelopment of this previously unpopular estate. Residents collaborated in appraising options and developed the design of the new masterplan, which saw the old maisonette blocks being knocked down and replaced mainly by terraced houses with gardens.

Homes were built using a highly innovative system involving large, factory-produced recyclable lightweight steel panels, with pre-decked floor cassettes, enabling the shell and upper floors of a dwelling to be erected within a day.

The masterplan also provided new local shops and a welcoming, flexible community centre which residents wrote the brief for, and which offered meeting spaces and activities for all sectors of the community.

This scheme has already transformed the image of the estate - all completed homes for sale were bought for prices in line with Basingstoke property values.

The scheme won the 2002 Basingstoke & Deane Housing Design Award, gained 3rd place in the 2002 Building Homes Quality Awards for Innovation and for Partnering, and was selected to exhibit at the 2002 RIBA Housing Design Awards. The project was a finalist in the 2004 Regeneration Awards, Best Housing Led Regeneration Project category.
