Great Lines Heritage Park

HTA was appointed as lead consultant for the masterplanning of this ambitious public park in June 2008. The Great Lines City Park covers approximately seventy hectares under five separate land owners including Medway Council, the MoD and Fort Amherst Heritage Trust, and includes and Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is a former military landscape associated with the defense of the historic dockyard in Chatham.

Over a 6 month period, HTA project managed and led the design for a new vision for the park. We carried out wide ranging stakeholder consultation, coordinated specialist archeological heritage and audience development input concluding in a costed proposal.

Further to the award of £1.8m CLG funding, we have undertaken the detail design and construction of all phases. Works include: 3km of new paths;  low gabion boundary walls, new feature entrances; localised restoration of the Historic Fort; securing the Fort to enable safe access for the public; signage & wayfinding; new furniture strategy and implementation.

Testimonial:

The Chatham World Heritage steering group appointed HTA Landscape Design to develop a 30year vision for the Great Lines (Medway, Kent), and a £2m masterplan for a two year work programme.

HTA swiftly became a respected part of the project team, winning the trust and confidence of local residents and stakeholders with their well-researched and genuinely consultative approach. At the end of their commission, the steering group minuted that they “thanked HTA for their clarity of thought, and professional approach to the commission.”

I have found HTA Landscape Design to be solution-oriented, strong communicators who have shown genuine enthusiasm for the project, and a commitment to discovering, analysing and meeting stakeholder aspirations. I would have no reservation in recommending them.
