Landscape Design Projects

Hanham Hall

Hanham Hall is the first site in the government’s Carbon Challenge initiative and is scheduled to become one of the first zero carbon communities in England. About 200 new homes are proposed in the grounds of the former hospital structured around a series of green spaces with allotments, orchards, hedges, ponds, cycle and walking routes. A restaurant, nursery, community hall, cafe and offices are currently proposed in the Hall.

The extensive and unique landscape setting of Hanham Hall has provided the opportunity to create a quality public realm for a sustainable community. An environment has been provided that rises to the challenge of reducing carbon consumption by rethinking the traditional uses of private, communal and public space.

Biodiversity and wildlife will be promoted throughout the new community. A new village green will form a central open space corridor creating strong connection to the countryside to the east. Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) will link areas of the site through a network of new ponds, swales and wetlands, designed for amenity, ecological and drainage functions.

A series of smaller more intimate spaces will be created as the focus of the development blocks. Their treatment will vary from soft informal greens to more formal and hard mews.
