Wellesley Square

The proposed mixed-use development comprises a landmark forty-four storey tower and seven to thirteen storey apartment blocks centred around a large civic square incorporating extensive water features with enhancements to the Wellesley Road and Bedford Park streetscapes. Wellesley Square provides an integrated landscape at both street and roof level.

HTA Landscape Design were appointed in 2007 to develop the landscape design with Berekely Homes’ Design Team led by Rolfe Judd Architects. Subsequently we were retained by the architect to produce hard and soft detail design and production information packages for the scheme.

The proposed mixed-use development comprises a landmark forty-four storey tower and seven to thirteen storey apartment blocks centred around a large civic square with enhancements to the Wellesley Road and Bedford Park streetscapes.

Wellesley Square provides an integrated landscape at both street and roof level. At ground level, a new civic square enlivens the public realm and benefits both occupants of the development and the general public. The space provides an attractive and robust pedestrian environment which facilitates both through-flow and encourages people to pause and enjoy the grass terraces, planting and seating at its centre. A variety of areas provides for informal recreation, outdoor dining and picnicking, with spill out spaces relating to cafés and shops within the ground floor premises.

The roofscape includes extensive, bio-diverse and intensive green roofs for residents’ amenity and ecological benefit. The high quality private and communal amenity space includes a range of spaces for play, sun terraces and gardens. Play elements for small children are carefully selected and form an integral part of the roof design.
