Student Accommodation in Wembley
HTA Design LLP has won planning approval for Karma House - a 19 storey student accommodation building on North End Road, Wembley. The proposed scheme which will provide 450 rooms of student accommodation responds to the high public transport accessibility level of the site as well as the borough’s ambition to improve and increase the student accommodation offer in the Wembley area.
The design team has worked closely with Brent Council’s planning officers to develop a high quality design which sits comfortably within the proposed wider area masterplan for Wembley. The vision for Karma House is to create exemplary student accommodation that meets aspirations for the area set out in the recently published masterplan prepared by Brent.
The scheme is designed to be built using a prefabricated volumetric construction system which uses a combination of pre-cast concrete floors and steel panels and can be employed to create towers over 20 stories in height, erected at the rate of eight modules a day.
HTA are exploring the use of the system in a range of applications as well as student accommodation, in particular for hotels and private rented schemes where speed of construction is paramount. It is capable of great flexibility of built form, as illustrated in this scheme and the nearby 22 storey oval Atmosphere tower recently completed by HTA.
