Colin Ainger

BA (Hons)

Partner

Colin became a Partner in 2013 when HTA Architects Ltd became HTA Design LLP, having originally joined the practice in 2001 as a Project Manager.

As one of four Project Directors in the business, he now leads a team of around 30 architects and assistants to deliver a portfolio of mixed-tenure and mixed-use projects for a range of public and private sector clients.

Having worked in the housing sector for over 20 years, Colin has developed an expertise in delivering large-scale regeneration projects, brown-field redevelopment schemes and Build to Rent projects, through work for organisations like Countryside Properties, Greystar, L&Q, Canary Wharf Group, Telford Homes and Lendlease, to name a few.

He has an extensive network within the sector and often brings together clients and collaborators from different aspects within it to form project teams or develop opportunities.

He has also developed a deep understanding of engaging with local communities, with recent ballot-winning success on estate regeneration projects, as well as ongoing communications with residents throughout the design process.

His recent portfolio has included the following projects:

Greenford Quay, Ealing for Greystar

Colin has led the multidisciplinary HTA team on Greystar’ flagship Build to Rent scheme in West London since the inception of the project in 2015.  Since obtaining Detailed Planning permission in 2017 for the whole 2,000 unit masterplan, the team have gone on help deliver the first building on site, Tillermans Court, which provides 279 new apartments, plus internal and external residents’ amenity and bespoke back-of-house facilities for Greystar’s on-site staff.

The design for the next building is being finalised, with a view to starting on site later in 2020.

Plot H11a, Elephant Park for Lendlease

Work has started on site now at H11a, where HTA collaborated with HOK Architects (designers of the adjacent plot at H11b) to obtain Planning consent for 222 homes in 2018.

The project will deliver homes for private and affordable rent, as well as shared ownership apartments and will anchor the wider masterplan through the provision of an 18-storey building at the South-East corner of the site in a prominent position on the New Kent Road.

Acton Gardens, Ealing for Countryside and L&Q

Colin’s team originally developed the masterplan for Acton Gardens (the name given to the redevelopment of the South Acton estate in Ealing), achieving Outline Planning consent for c2,500 new homes plus commercial and community facilities in 2012.

Since then, his team have delivered Detailed Planning consent for two of the construction phases on the estate (Phases 1 and 5), totalling around 430 new homes, as well as working drawings for Phase 1.

Plot B2, Wood Wharf for Canary Wharf Group and Edyn

Having secured Detailed Planning consent for this building on the Cartier Circle at the edge of the wider Wood Wharf masterplan area in 2019, Colin’s team have gone on to develop the construction drawings in collaboration with Caledonian, the modular manufacturer that has been earmarked to deliver the scheme.

This striking building will comprise of 279 serviced apartments and dock-side resident amenity space.
