Monica Lopes

Architectural Assistant Part II

BArch of Architecture & MArch of Architecture Urban Planning Specialization, Lisbon University [Architecture Faculty]

After joining HTA in April 2016, Monica became involved in a number of projects working as an Architectural Assistant. Monica is particularly passionate about the impact architecture and urban design has on life on a daily basis, believing that the city, public spaces and buildings should be designed and constructed with the regular people in mind.

Monica always had a keen interest and had been involvemed in architecture even before attending university. She completed a CAD Technician course, during this time she spent two years contributing to a number of small scale projects, both renovations and new constructions, leading her to pursue a higher degree.

Whilst she was completing her Masters in Architecture and Urban Design, she gained solid work experience working for two engineering companies; Edgar Cardoso - Structure Laboratory Ltd 2009- 2013 and Civiconsult 2013-2014.

She has been involved in numerous national and international projects ranging in size from small buildings to large scale infrastructures. This includes working as a senior CAD technician on the Baixo Alentejo A26 Highway project in Portugal. She also worked as a Senior CAD technician and a team co-ordinator for Good God Church in Luanda, Africa.

Monica also spent a semester abroad studying in Italy, at the Facolta di Architettura di Alghero integrating the European Master course in Planning and Policies for the City, Environment and Landscape. This experience broadened her horizons and lead her to move to London.

Monica has put her strong technical background and attention to detail to good use, collaborating as an Architectural Assistant on site at Parritt Leng Architects. A significant project for Monica was Camberwell Road, a mixed use development where she worked as an Architectural Asssistant Part II. She also worked on Higgs Estate, London, another large-scale mixed use development.

At HTA Monica is currently working in Winstanley & York Road estate regeneration, a masterplan that is aiming to deliver around 2800 homes and some many other community services.

Prior to this she was involved in Stage 2 in Rochester Masterplan and Stage 2 and 3 in Croydon Smaller Sites Program, an estate regeneration that HTA did together with Brick by Brick and won the NLA 2017 award for Housing, Unbuilt development.
