Peter Lusby Taylor

Senior Architectural Designer

Bsc Hons, B Arch

Peter came to HTA in 1999 to pursue an interest in contemporary methods of construction in housing design. He was appointed to the role of Technical Design Director in 2002 which he worked in until 2006. He then moved back to Scotland when HTA opened their Edinburgh office in 2006.

Whilst at HTA in London he led the team working on the innovative design of the Oakridge Estate at Basingstoke. This pioneered the use of light gauge steel framing for housing schemes in the UK. It won several design awards and led to him being asked to lead a study for CABE into quality issues surrounding the use of offsite construction techniques. Further projects designing modular building systems for manufacturers such as Corus followed from this. HTA were then selected as architects to a consortium for the largest at PFI project in the UK for the supply of barrack accommodation based on that system.

Peter was a tutor at Oxford Brookes University, a member of the panel that determined and approved the construction detailing for the Robust Detail as referenced in the Building regulations and contributed to a book published by SCI on the use of light gauge steel. Within the office he managed our technical design team and contributed to numerous projects. More recently he has worked on all HTA’s major Scottish projects in some capacity or other in addition to contributing to numerous bids, competitions and the design development and detailing stage of projects elsewhere.

Prior to his time at HTA Peter was an Associate Director at Reiach and Hall Architects in Edinburgh a leading Scottish practice with an outstanding portfolio of award winning institutional and commercial buildings. Whilst there he led a team working on new office buildings for the Bank of Scotland, new Sainsbury’s superstores, the Stills gallery, the refurbishment of several Grade A listed buildings for clients such as Glasgow University, and including St Andrew’s House for the Scottish Parliament. In addition to his consultancy work with HTA Peter teaches a course in Architectural Technology Research at Edinburgh University and acts as a Professional Studies Advisor. He has recently published a novel.

In his time at HTA Peter has worked on and been responsible for the concept, design development and detailing stage of a wide range of projects, including many small and large scale schemes of new-build houses and apartments.
