Richard Foxley

Senior Associate, Senior Architect

BArch(Hons) DipArch MA ARB

Richard joined HTA in 2010 as an architect and is now a Senior Associate who helps run our Edinburgh office, overseeing the portfolio of projects delivered from Edinburgh and managing the project teams. He originally joined to deliver the competition winning bid for the Castleward masterplan in Derby and has since been responsible for the design and delivery of a wide range of residential and mixed-use projects across the country, at a variety of scales, with a particular focus on regeneration and sustainable design.

Prior to joining HTA, Richard gained a variety of experience in different sectors with large-scale masterplan projects in Boston, USA, helping deliver various sites which form part of the Emerald Necklace along with university campus designs in New England. He has also been involved in delivering significant commercial and educational buildings for the likes of University of East London through previous practice.

Springside – One of the last remaining key gap sites in Edinburgh, Richard led HTA’s input into the design team developing private-rent proposals for over 700 new private-rent homes in the city centre. Working alongside the lead-consultants HTA helped develop the internal operation, function and aesthetic of the first block to help shape the buildings offering.

Bearbrook – An HCA competition site that HTA had previously won, Richard led the detailed design and construction delivery of the scheme on an environmentally sensitive site, co-ordinating multiple in-house services to create a high-quality, contemporary and sustainable development.

Mill O Mains – A significant estate in Dundee which HTA provided the regeneration masterplan for, involving demolition of locally unpopular tower blocks and retention of much-loved bungalows, Richard has co-ordinated the successful design and delivery of 3 phases so far, with the upcoming fourth phase set to complete the transformation of this area of the city.

Muirton – This masterplan involved the phased demolition of existing blocks of flats and the re-housing of an entire estate in Perth to deliver a new network of streets lined with 2-storey houses and gardens. HTA helped the local residents form a residents association who were a key part of the ongoing consultation and development process throughout the 4 phases of construction which are now complete.

Castleward – Submitted the competition-winning bid for the residential-led regeneration of Castleward in Derby which utilised all of our in-house disciplines. He then delivered Phase 1 of construction, helping our client achieve the UK’s first BREEAM Sustainable Communities certification, with Phase 2 recently submitted for planning.
