HTA Planning is advising Barratts on Hanham Hall, the UK’s first Carbon Challenge scheme: a project that had to be delivered at stringent environmental sustainability standards, including Level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, Building for Life (Gold), Lifetime Homes and zero carbon. HTA Planning provided planning advice on the project from bidding stage. The scheme consists of the refurbishment of the existing Grade II* listed Hanham Hall to provide flexible space for commercial, community, health, leisure and education uses, for residents and the wider community; 195 new dwellings, high quality landscape and public realm and a centralised heating and energy plant to generate electricity and heat from renewable sources, accommodated in a landmark building which acts as energy centre, sustainable living centre (exhibition space) and performance space. HTA Planning negotiated a Planning Performance Agreement as project management tool with the local authority planning team which included a community engagement strategy.
