HTA worked closely with Sevenoaks District Council, English Heritage and Halstead Parish Council, as well as the client and consultant team, to develop the right design response to this sensitive site on the outskirts of Halstead Village.
Following extensive consultation with all the stakeholders we delivered a design that was granted planning permission in February 2009 and is now been recognized as a exceptional award-winning development after been announced the Best New Homes Development in Kent at 2010’s UK Property Awards.
The Masterplan promotes design excellence and celebrates best practice in the house building industry. All the bespoke units are responsive to the local heritage and the magnificent views across countryside, thereby the all benefit from the large open spaces that help retain the character of this inimitable location. Halstead is conveniently located just 6 miles from Sevenoaks, which provides excellent shopping, schooling and commuting to London is easy with good transport links.
The client and design team showed a vision that in order to capitalise on the site's superb location, setting and existing features, a high quality, bespoke design response was required. HTA therefore worked hand in hand with the team at Ward Homes' Land, Sales and Technical department to deliver a range of dwelling designs that captured the value of the site by responding to its unique setting and reflecting the best of the local architectural style. New homes were therefore arranged in 'farmstead' courtyards, typical of the Kent countryside and had large balconies where they overlooked the green belt. The homes were built using local materials such as flint, brick and timber boarding and had large areas of glazing to maximise views out and light into the dwellings.
High quality, high value homes were therefore created that sold well and that have added enormously to the village's character and appeal. When announced the Best New Homes Development in Kent at this year's UK Property Awards, Nick Fenton, Managing Director of Ward Homes, said: "I am extremely proud that Ward Homes has received this award. A great deal of thought went into the properties at Halstead Place, each unique in design. Halstead Place has a rich heritage and it was important that this was reflected in the properties, which include some beautiful Grade II listed buildings which were carefully restored."
