HTA provided planning consultancy advice for a competition winning scheme of 13 new homes designed by Levitt Bernstein at Vaudeville Court. The objective of the competition, run by Islington Council, was to find a high quality architectural style for new affordable housing in the Borough.
Vaudeville Court is a tight urban site in a strategic location close to Finsbury Park Station. New homes are proposed at the site of underused garages and parking areas, with wider housing estate public realm improvements. Every surface is utilised in the design to provide private and communal green spaces.
The design concept attempts to address the social and environmental challenges of urban living in the 21st century whilst remaining true to the emblematic style of Islington. It provides 100% social rented affordable housing. Forty six per cent of the homes are family homes. Planning approval was obtained in October 2011 and the scheme should be completed by the end of 2013. The scheme was shortlisted for the Housing Design Awards, 2012.
