Alton Estate Regeneration Plans Win London’s Largest Ballot

29 Nov 2025

In London’s largest regeneration ballot, residents voted overwhelmingly in support of Wandsworth Council’s vision for a long-term estate renewal plan for Roehampton’s Alton estate, developed by HTA Design in collaboration with the council and local community. The plans include up to 650 new homes and over 50% affordable housing.

The design builds on the estate’s distinctive landscape and mid-century character, creating new homes, civic buildings, and green public spaces that encourage connection and everyday activity. More than 90 engagement events helped shape the proposals, ensuring they reflect the needs and aspirations of local residents.

The renewal plan transforms Alton West into a connected residential neighbourhood centred on Danebury Avenue. It introduces a community square, a new village green, and an improved pedestrian network linking key destinations. A diverse mix of homes, including family housing, will sit alongside a new Family Hub at Portswood Place with nursery facilities, family services, retail space, and a GP surgery.

The positive ballot result enables Wandsworth Council and the project team to move forward with detailed design and delivery, creating a sustainable and connected future for the Alton Estate and the wider community.
