With half a century in practice as a housing architect, HTA’s chair Ben Derbyshire has written a book – Home Truths – intended as an essential primer for anyone with aspirations to follow in his footsteps. An expression of tough love, according to one reviewer, the book draws on the past to set course for a sustainable future for the professions, their clients and society.

The book, which has a foreword by Sadie Morgan, was launched at a party in our new Hackney Wick studios on 24th January. Architecture Today editor Isabel Allen chaired a panel discussion with Muyiwa Oki, Patricia Brown, Andrew Beharrell and Claire Bennie, exploring the lacuna in education for those seeking a professional role in housing design and planning.
The first of what we hope will be many Tuesday evening social events in our London studio, the party made full use of the lovely spaces in our renovated Victorian factory building. A convivial mix of family, friends and fellow professionals enjoyed food and drink and discounted copies of the book flew of the shelves!
Home Truths is available to order online from RIBA.
