Eden Dock is shortlisted for a WLA Award

15 Jul 2025

Eden Dock has been shortlisted by World Landscape Architect in the “Built Sustainability & Resilience” category, recognising its pioneering approach to urban ecological restoration.

A 1.55-hectare disused dock in Canary Wharf has been transformed into a publicly accessible landscape that delivers measurable environmental gains. At its core is a modular floating forest with 770m² of planted islands using recycled steel and low-carbon materials. These support 70–80 resilient native species and 42 new trees, resulting in a 55% biodiversity net gain and a 100% improvement in predicted ecosystem service value.

The scheme addresses climate resilience through increased shading, carbon sequestration, and a 10% reduction in urban heat. An aquatic shelf and marine monitoring station promote citizen science and track ecological health. Designed for all ages, Eden Dock now supports richer aquatic and bird life and provides a meaningful connection to nature.

Eden Dock demonstrates how landscape-led design can reverse ecological decline and deliver long-term public value. It sets a benchmark for nature-first urban infrastructure and a model for future waterfront regeneration.

It’s a well-deserved recognition of the team’s collaborative effort and ambition. Congratulations to Canary Wharf Group, Howells, Greenage Environmental Ltd and all other collaborators involved.
