Eden Dock receives honourable mention in WLA Awards

12 Aug 2025

Howells and HTA have received an Honourable Mention in the World Landscape Architecture Awards’ Built Sustainability & Resilience category for Eden Dock.

The WLA Awards celebrate projects that show innovative design, demonstrate exceptional environmental stewardship, foster vibrant communities, and address critical global challenges through landscape-led solutions.

Eden Dock, for Canary Wharf Group and designed by Howells with landscape design by HTA, is a ground-breaking public space with floating, interconnected pontoons and aquatic islands. The contemporary insertions within the Grade I-listed 19th-century dock creatively engage the public with the water’s edge while enriching the ecology and biodiversity of Canary Wharf’s open water spaces.

Since opening in October 2024, Eden Dock has been adopted by local communities and visitors, creating a buzzing environment that invites the public to the water’s edge across generous amphitheatre steps and planted pontoons which connect as outdoor rooms.

Eden Dock brings 55% biodiversity net gain to Canary Wharf, incorporating 70–80 species and 42 new trees. HTA’s Landscape team prioritised diverse, resilient vegetation that is bird-resistant and trampling-tolerant, ensuring long-term ecological stability as vegetation matures.
