Planning Approval for Clare House

24 Apr 2025

We’re pleased to be working with Clarion Housing Group on the approved redevelopment of Clare House in Bow, Tower Hamlets.

The design responds directly to local needs, replacing 129 existing flats with 145 high quality new social rented homes, more than half of which are three and four bedroom family sized, reflecting the borough’s housing priorities. The scheme introduces a distinctive 23 storey tower, complemented by adjoining 4-5 storey mansion blocks, framed by new green spaces, enhanced private gardens, and significant upgrades to Jasmine Park.

A new community centre will front a central garden and play space, with direct connections to Hawthorn Play Park, creating opportunities for social connection and active use throughout the day.

Paul Maddock, Associate Partner, Senior Architect at HTA Design, said:

“We’re proud to be working with Clarion and the local community to design exceptional social rented housing in Bow. The design takes cues from Tower Hamlets’ 20th Century heritage of social housing schemes such as those designed locally by Berthold Lubetkin. We designed a repeating chequerboard pattern of contrasting brick panels to add a lively character to a more slender landmark building with stunning views across Victoria Park. This approval is an important milestone in creating a place people will be proud to call home.”
