Planning approval for One Lansdowne in Croydon

10 Dec 2024

The planning consent for One Lansdowne reflects our collaboration with Croydon planners, the GLA, and our client Greystar to deliver an architecture and public realm worthy of this prominent site.

Tower A is inspired by the richly articulated architecture of Louis Sullivan and the transformation of downtown Chicago and will stand at 50 storeys, whilst Tower B reflects the sculptural mid-century designs of Richard Seifert, whose nearby works helped define Croydon’s modernist identity in the 1950s. The buildings may differ in palette, composition, and façade geometry, but they share a common underlying structure, including the same footprint, plan organisation, and overall vertical emphasis.

The public realm introduces a substantial green civic space to Croydon, offering a valuable amenity for the community. The design aligns with Croydon’s vision for a pedestrian-friendly environment, including a new crossing at Wellesley Road and north-south pedestrian routes that improve connectivity and accessibility.

The design brings 800 build-to-rent homes that will benefit from 24/7 management on site and a range of shared amenity spaces designed for relaxation, fitness, and community building. This model for urban living builds on the success that our long-standing client Greystar and contributing to Croydon’s evolution into a more connected and community-focused urban centre.

“This planning consent rewards our creative collaboration with Croydon’s planners to determine an appropriate architecture for the tallest building in the borough. Inspired by the richly articulated architecture of Louis Sullivan and the transformation of downtown Chicago into a brilliant place to live as well as work and shop, the project delivers a huge choice of homes in two distinct towers. Fronting a new civic square with green connections to Croydon’s main stations they will further enhance Croydon’s reputation as a lively and attractive place to live. We are proud to bring this vision to life alongside our long-standing partner Greystar”
