Planning permission has been granted for 18 modular homes in Romford

6 Jun 2025

Designed by HTA for the London Borough of Havering and Wates Group  this innovative pilot project addresses the urgent need for temporary housing. It forms part of the wider regeneration joint venture between Havering Council and Wates Residential, which will deliver up to 5,000 new homes across the borough. Built to the same standards as permanent housing, the homes will feature modern amenities, private bedrooms, family bathrooms, kitchen and living spaces, helping to restore stability to those facing housing insecurity. Designed to be relocated as permanent housing comes forward, these homes ensure continuous provision for those who need it most.

Alongside HTA, Wates Residential has worked with suppliers, planners, manufacturers and local councils to develop this modular solution. As pre-designed standard houses, they are twice as fast to construct, allowing the flexibility to relocate homes where necessary. Wates’ modular homes also have energy efficient designs with low carbon footprints and involve minimal on-site work.
