HTA Design is an award winning interdisciplinary design partnership of specialist teams working collaboratively in Architecture, Landscape, Urban Design, Interior Design, Sustainability, Planning and Communication Design.

The Architect/Masterplanner will support HTA’s Placecraft team, where our clients range from high profile master developers to design-led housebuilders and innovative SMEs.

As an Architect/Masterplanner, you will be taking a major role in our expanding portfolio of UK strategic masterplans. These range from around 500 to over 5,000 homes, urban extensions, new settlements, brownfield and greenfield, Green Belt and Grey Belt. Densities from 30-100 dph.

You will report to an Associate Partner, who will retain overall responsibility for the project delivery and strategic relationship with the client.

What you will do:

Work with senior members of HTA and lead on the following workstreams:

  • Vision and narrative – define what makes each place distinctive and engaging including key moves, routes, connections, landscape frameworks, and the character of centres.
  • Site analysis and documentation – conduct comprehensive site analysis, identify technical constraints, prepare land budgets, assess site capacities, and develop development schedules.
  • ​Capacity testing and design strategy – assess land parcels for capacity, applying expertise in street typologies, frontage design, housing typologies, plot configurations, servicing requirements, and parking strategies.

Lead on key documentation:

  • Produce compelling Vision Documents.
  • Articulate the vision with illustrative masterplans and parameter plans.
  • Accurate Land Budget and schedules.
  • Design and Access Statements with a strong narrative.
  • Develop clear Design Codes to enable delivery of high-quality housing.
  • Produce high-quality outputs across single or multiple project stages, demonstrating strong design and technical capability.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Architect/Architectural Designer or Urban Designer with relevant undergraduate and postgraduate degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience including UK low/medium rise and/or housebuilder-led development. Greater levels of experience are also of interest.
  • Demonstrable experience on large scale UK masterplans for Vision, Outline Planning and Design Code Stages.
  • Strong understanding of UK masterplanning best practice.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong collaborative internal and external working relationships.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to apply creative thought and energy to a range of projects.
  • A calm disposition with strong organisation skills and the ability to manage time well and meet project deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using CAD, SketchUp, Adobe or Affinity Suite.
  • Good Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word).
