Planning Awards 2018
Following hot on the heels of our Planning Team’s shortlisting in three categories for the RTPI Awards last month, we are delighted to also have been shortlisted for three award categories for the Planning Awards. The Planning Awards are run by Planning magazine in conjunction with PlanningResource and PlacemakingResource. The Awards recognise excellence in both planning and place-making. The team have been shortlisted for the following categories:
- Award for Affordable Housing: HTA Design Planning Team;
- Award for Planning for Increased Housing Delivery: Wembley Modular Developments; and
- Planning Permission of the Year: Andover Estate.

We are immensely pleased and proud to be shortlisted for these awards”
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony that will take place on 6 June 2018, bringing together professionals across the industry for a night of celebration and networking at Savoy Place.
1.1 Award for Affordable Housing: HTA Design Planning Team
This award will go to the team or project that can most clearly demonstrate how its professional planning work has helped to, or is likely to help to, increase provision of good quality housing at below market cost. Since its inception in 2007 HTA Planning has successfully secured consent for 6,001 homes; 2,955 homes have been secured for housing associations or local authority clients, assisting these organisations with the delivery of their overall affordable housing delivery. Local authority housebuilding is increasingly debated.
1.2 Award for Planning for Increased Housing Delivery: Wembley Modular Developments
This award will go to the team or project that can most clearly demonstrate how its professional planning work has either helped to increase the rate of delivery of planned-for, good quality new homes, or the likelihood that the rate of delivery of such homes will increase in the future. HTA’s work with Tide is recognised as leading the industry in tall, modular building. HTA Design, Tide Construction and Vision Modular have worked with LB Brent to deliver three tall buildings known as Apex House, Felda House and Shubette House. These buildings helped catalyse a successful economy in Wembley. HTA’s planning team input, together with Brent planning officers were key to this. Brent’s planning department were very positive in providing feedback to Tide, encouraging them to invest in Wembley. We are hopeful that the impacts of the development on the area will have long lasting impacts, benefiting it for years to come.
1.3 Planning Permission of the Year: Andover Estate
This award goes to the project which the judges to consider to be most likely to have the most significant positive impact on the physical or environmental quality of a place. The regeneration of the Andover Estate comprises complex infill, refurbishment and redevelopment proposals to deliver 199 new homes, affordable workspace and a flexible use community space, alongside significant public realm improvements. The Andover Estate is unique in its approach as it demonstrates how estate regeneration can be undertaken working with communities in situ, using public sector land to deliver social rented homes, and was specifically praised for this approach by planning committee members.
