RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence 2019
We are delighted to announce that two projects to deliver homes led by our planning team have been shortlisted as part of the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2019 – in the small and large schemes categories respectively. Our planning team has also been shortlisted for Small Planning Consultancy of the Year.
The RTPI Awards are the most established and respected awards in the UK planning industry. Running for 40 years, they celebrate exceptional examples of planning and the contribution planners make to society.
Castleward Urban Village redevelopment is a finalist in the category for Excellence in Planning to Deliver Housing (Large Schemes)
HTA Design’s planning team collaborated with their in house design teams to deliver this expansive scheme.
The vision of the development team to make Castleward a thriving place transformed this neglected central area into a new urban neighbourhood and business area. Castleward in Derby is an important large city centre regeneration providing over 800 new homes, a school, shops, community buildings and offices, removing the existing surface car parks and run down industrial sites.
The development team worked collaboratively with the City Council to produce an agreed deliverable and realistic strategic planning approach. This collaboration helped HTA Design deliver an innovative and creative scheme and Compendium Group deliver the first phase of the urban regeneration.
Brickworks Community Centre and Affordable Housing is a finalist in the category Excellence to Deliver Housing (Small Sites)
HTA Design worked with Brady Mallalieu for Islington Council, to deliver this scheme.
This new building provides a much needed new community centre to replace two small out dated centres close to each other in Islington. The scheme also provides a 100% affordable housing scheme (23 homes) homes on the same site, a very unusual occurrence in central London. The community centre was designed flowing detailed consultation and analysis of the users of the existing centres. The outcome has been much praised by the users and politicians including Jeremy Corbyn MP.
HTA Design Planning Team for Small Planning Consultancy of the Year
HTA works on innovative residential and mixed use projects, challenging traditional development models. Specialists in interdisciplinary design, they enrich their contribution as planners through research and community projects.
Riette Oosthuizen, Planning Partner at HTA Design LLP said: "We are immensely pleased and proud to be shortlisted for these awards. Over the years we have built up our expertise in successfully delivering infill and small site developments for a range of clients. These are sometimes very tricky to get through the planning process. However, we remain committed to supporting the huge potential for delivering new homes on these sites. I am proud that my team has been shortlisted for Small Planning Consultancy of the Year. We invest in the growth and development of our staff and a culture that supports effective interdisciplinary working”.
RTPI President Ian Tant MRTPI said: “Many congratulations to all this year’s finalists, who demonstrate outstanding contributions to planning, producing a positive effect on our communities, the economy and the environment. They have shown how planners can use their passion and skills to meet needs, deliver high quality design and tackle environmental challenges – they should all be proud of their role as a force for good in society.”
The winners will be announced during a ceremony held at Milton Court Concert Hall in central London on 24 April 2019.
