196 Build to Rent homes and ground floor commercial on a town centre site

Our London Road Build to Rent scheme for Yara Capital and BeFirst was unanimously approved by the Barking and Dagenham Planning Committee earlier this week.

This development comprises 196 Build to Rent units, on a prominent corner location at the edge of Barking Town Centre, with an important relationship with the historic heart of Barking, the Abbey Grounds. For both the massing and the materials, we have taken cue from neighbouring buildings and local landmark buildings, such as St. Margaret’s Church, resulting in an elegant mass with a clear split between the three forms. This split has allowed us to change the materials for each mass, each with a deep connection to barking, its ‘ages’ and its memories. This allows the buildings to have their own architectural language and character.

With the orientation of the development, it lends itself to have a single highly legible entrance. The Western block is the tallest and is orientated to both acknowledge the Abbey Grounds directly to the South West of the site, and the long views towards central London, there is a PRS amenity floor and roof terrace
