We got planning...

A proposed residential development at Wensley Road, Reading, was granted planning permission this week

Designed by HTA Design for Reading Borough Council, the 46-home scheme comprises a four-storey apartment building and 28 houses, with homes ranging from one to three beds.

All new homes will be affordable, and are designed to achieve net zero carbon, using a combination of renewable energy sources including air source heat pumps and PV panels, as well as an extremely thermally efficient building fabric.

The new homes have been designed to integrate into the surrounding neighbourhood and into the context of three residential towers. At the centre of the site is a re-imagined community play and landscape space set within the existing mature trees. Existing and new homes overlook the central space and routes to wider neighbourhood connections have been enhanced through the site, together with integrated parking.

Caroline Dove, partner at HTA Design, said: “Wensley Road is a fantastic model for the delivery of sustainable and affordable housing that is designed to fit in its local context. By reimagining the green space at the heart of the development, encouraging active play, and facilitating energy-efficient measures, these new homes put the health and wellbeing of new and existing residents first.”
