David has over 17 years’ experience leading residential and mixed use masterplans and large scale regeneration projects working with housing associations, housebuilders and developers. He has successfully negotiated planning consent on many high density, complex and award winning housing schemes across London liaising with the GLA, Development Corporations, local authorities and wider stakeholder groups. In addition to his experience of large scale planning schemes his portfolio also includes developing urban design strategies and building proposals within historic contexts and for regeneration led bids. His experience includes commercial and mixed use schemes, high rise residential buildings and developing local authority frameworks working at an urban design and architectural level.

He joined HTA in February 2014 to head up the Aylesbury Estate Regeneration project, one of the Practice’s most significant projects and a major estate regeneration project in South East London that will transform a 30-hectare site. David successfully secured planning consent for a 830 dwelling detailed planning application and a 2,745 dwelling outline masterplan covering the wider estate in March 2015.

David continues to lead the post planning stages of this project including tender stages, detailed phasing works and additional section 73 planning work liaising closely with the local authority and client team to ensure this important regeneration scheme will be delivered.

David has led other significant regeneration projects including the regeneration of Rochester Riverside, one of Medway Council’s most significant brownfield sites. Overseeing the hybrid application, comprising an outline masterplan and detailed planning element, which will deliver up to 1,400 new homes on a vacant riverside site. The scheme was carefully designed to extend the historic city of Rochester and reanimate the Medway river frontage with the first phases currently on site and due to be completed this year.

Currently, David leads the masterplanning and architectural design teams delivering the Winstanley and York Road Regeneration in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Having submitted and secured a planning application for a landmark residential tower, a community and residential building as the first phase of development, David is currently leading the hybrid application process for the remainder of the regeneration site delivering a new urban park as part of London’s new green infrastructure, significant regional community infrastructure that includes a library and leisure centre and over 2,500 homes for new and existing residents. David’s skill at managing a complex team of different architectural practices, consultants and stakeholders whilst overseeing diverse aspects of the project from materials and design through to phasing and delivery, ensures that the complex project moves forward smoothly and successfully.

David’s skills include exceptional concept design, creative hand drawing and presentation skills coupled with an expertise in high density, mixed tenure housing design and the planning regulatory process. He is a skilled and experienced project leader who is adept at leading and managing complex design teams to collaboratively work through concept, design development, planning and construction stages. Working at both a masterplanning and detailed design stage, he is quick to identify potential problems and has the foresight and skill to manage these within the design process to ensure best outcomes are achieved for all stakeholders in the design process.
