HTA were appointed to design a scheme to redevelop an existing warehouse site at 21-23 Parkhouse Street on the edge of Burgess Park within a designated ‘Preferred Industrial Location’. The team were appointed on behalf of the Regeneration Team of the London Borough of Southwark, and comprised HTA Design’s architecture, landscape, planning and sustainability teams.
Following extensive resident consultation, and close collaborative working with the Council’s planning department and the GLA the scheme is due to be submitted for planning in December 2018. Once delivered the scheme will act as a benchmark for the quality of development coming forward in the surrounding area as part of the wider mixed-use redevelopment of the Parkhouse Street Industrial Estate.
The design incorporates a new green link connecting the new mixed use cultural quarter in the wider area to the park, and comprises two buildings, one 5-storey building fronting Parkhouse Street providing affordable workspace, and the other part 7/10 storey facing Burgess Park to provide workspace at ground floor with 33 new homes above, including 16 social rented homes.
