The site is located next to Woodside Park Station on the High Barnet Branch of the Northern Line in zone 4. Pocket Living are developing the site as 100% affordable accommodation providing 86, 1 bed 1-person apartments.
The design proposal for this scheme focuses on reinforcing the suburban nature of the site that contains dense foliage and tree cover, forming a secret garden which hides and shields the proposed buildings to create an ‘urban retreat’ from the city.
The architectural design responds to the site, using contemporary fenestration alongside horizontal red brick coursing to reflect the context of St Barnabas Church.
The scheme has been welcomed by the Mayors Design Advocates and has been submitted for planning, determination is due in January 2020.
The two linear 5 storey buildings are situated on an east-west axis and step with the natural topography of the site. The buildings flank a central courtyard that provides access to the entrances via sculptural staircases that ascend the facade.
