The redevelopment of the Aylesbury Estate in South London, one of the most significant urban renewal projects in London, took a major step forward earlier this year with the appointment of Notting Hill Housing with Barratt London as the development partners of the London Borough of Southwark, following an 18 month selection process.

HTA have led the design team throughout the bid process and will shortly submit an outline application for the phased demolition and redevelopment of 3500 new homes, alongside a detailed application for a first phase of some 800 homes.

We have developed a vision for transforming this area of extraordinary potential into a great new place, befitting of its central location and excellent amenities. Access to the amenities and transport links of Walworth Road and Old Kent Road are improved, and the whole of Walworth will be better connected to the regenerated Burgess Park that bounds the south edge of the development.

The vision is about creating a new part of London knitted seamlessly into the surrounding city, with beautiful open spaces and some of the most spacious and light homes in central London. It is about creating a place that all Londoners from every background, can make their home - a place that families will choose to bring up their children, on safe streets and in well maintained parks, close to good schools and excellent job opportunities, right in the heart of London, alongside the young and the old in a healthy and economically active place.

HTA have been working as masterplanners, sustainability consultants and landscape architects, and are Lead Architect for the first phase working in collaboration with architects Hawkins Brown and Mae, which will deliver a wide range of homes in a combination of terraced housing, a contemporary update of the London mansion block and a series of taller buildings overlooking the recently enhanced Burgess Park. The designs have been extensively consulted on with local residents with HTA design leading on the new branding for the area.
