HTA Landscape have been appointed by Berkeley Homes and are currently working on the design and delivery of the public realm for South Quay Plaza in the Isle of Dogs. This is a very significant project that will play a key role in revitalising the dockside and creating much needed open space. The scheme consists of 3 x residential towers at 68, 54 and 36 storeys designed by Fosters + Partners, the refurbishment of an existing office block, and 1.78 ha of public realm. The scheme also includes a temporary park under the DLR and several roof terraces. 

The proposed towers will sit prominently in the London skyline. The public realm around them is carefully designed to manage the perception of scale at ground level and provide a variety of spaces for active and passive use. Large tree planting and extensive soft landscape provide a park atmosphere for residents and workers, a green oasis in the wider Isle of Dogs. 

South Quay Plaza Sales & Marketing Suite

The South Quay Plaza Sales and Marketing Suite landscape for Berkeley Homes South East London was completed in autumn 2017. It transformed an area that has been closed to the public for over twenty years into an attractive and inviting piece of public realm that provides a visually stimulating extension to South Quay Square. 

The design captures the essence of the permanent scheme to be delivered in the years to come.

By portraying it at this intimate scale, the scheme gives local residents, visitors and passers-by, a preview of the experience and quality of the future SQP public realm. The planting for the Marketing Suite creates an immersive experience through dense swathes of herbaceous species that provide seasonal interest and structure throughout the year.

The creation of a moveable park as part of these works, has also transformed the area beneath the DLR and dramatically improved views towards the building from both the nearby DLR station and Marsh Wall. The park is an installation consisting of a series of garden spaces that provide valuable greening, human scale and important amenity. It is a flexible space consisting of surface mounted planters that can be moved in order to enable different uses and programming.
