What Sets Us Apart

HTA's Sustainable Futures team combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of housing design. Our advice is practical, evidence-based and shaped around the people who will live in the homes we help create.

Designers as well as analysts Most of our team trained as architects before specialising in sustainability and building physics. We sit within an interdisciplinary practice alongside HTA's architects, landscape architects, planners and interior designers. We understand how design decisions are made, so our advice is easy to act on.

Housing specialists HTA has designed homes for more than 50 years, across every form and tenure. We understand the specific challenges of delivering low carbon, comfortable homes.

A proven net zero track record We were named BD Net Zero Architect of the Year in 2022 and Sustainability Architect of the Year in 2020. Our projects include Hanham Hall, England's first large scale volume housebuilder scheme to meet the 2016 zero carbon standard. They also include Kidbrooke Park Road, set to become England's largest new council housing development, with 445 net zero homes.

Leaders in modular construction HTA is a global leader in volumetric modular design, with more than 5,000 homes and 10,000 modules delivered. Research by the University of Cambridge and Edinburgh Napier University shows the Vision volumetric modular system can cut embodied carbon by more than 40%.

One team from concept to completion Clients work with one consistent team from early strategy through to final compliance and certification, with no handover between consultants.

Research and thought leadership We share our knowledge to raise standards across the industry. This includes The Modular Housing Handbook (RIBA, 2022), co-authored by Rory Bergin and Simon Bayliss, and new HTA guidance on apartment window design for overheating compliance.

A responsible business HTA Design is a certified B Corporation and an accredited Living Wage Employer, and was named AJ100 Practice of the Year in 2025.
