Aaliyah Lawal
Architectural Assistant (Part II)
BA, MSc Architecture, Urbanism & Building Sciences
Aaliyah joined HTA in 2023 as a Part II architectural assistant where she has worked on residential schemes for local authority and private sector clients from stage 3 onwards.
During her Part I placement, Aaliyah worked at Make Architects, experiencing projects from conception to planning stages. She also utilised her graphic design skills by volunteering for the social enterprise Black Females in Architecture (BFA). Her involvement at Make Architects and on BFA’s committee team focused Aaliyah’s enthusiasm for championing inclusivity through people-centred initiatives.
Aaliyah was awarded a study-abroad studentship to TU Delft for her master’s degree where she interrogated the social design practices promoted in the Netherlands and neighbouring European countries. Her group thesis project involved masterplanning an urban regeneration scheme in Maastritch and personally designing a housing scheme using initiatives derived from public consultations and placemaking workshops.
Aaliyah advocates socially conscious design and community building using architectural interventions. She now works to implement the lessons learnt during her studies into her contributions at HTA Design.
