As Partner for Sustainable Futures, Rory’s role is to develop excellence in sustainable and innovative design and construction, enabling HTA to be industry leaders in environmentally conscious placemaking. By overseeing the practice’s implementation of sustainable design and the use of appropriate tools, his work has a positive impact on many of our projects.
Rory leads a team of consultants advising clients on sustainable design and efficient prefabrication methods. The work of the team serves a range of clients, from manufacturers of products and systems to landlords, contractors and developers working in the offsite sector.
Extensive technical know-how has enabled Rory to lead on our involvement in high-profile research projects. Themes include the use of digital tools and volumetric offsite construction in projects for residential and student accommodation, achieving sustainable density on otherwise unviable sites.
In 2022 he published The Modular Housing Handbook, delving into HTA’s innovative work with Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). Over the course of 15 years, HTA has honed their MMC offer by working with manufacturers in a consultancy role, continuously improving the sustainability, delivery, and cost of the product.
Rory and his team are responsible for the sustainability consultancy on some of the UK’s highest profile housing projects including Hanham Hall, one of the UK’s largest zero carbon residential developments.
