Alexander Farr

MArch Architecture & Town Planning; BA(hons)

Alex joined HTA in November 2016 as an Architectural and Planning Assistant, based in Manchester. He has worked on a number of high profile, award-winning schemes, from suburban homes to high-density urban regeneration, whilst contributing to the development of BIM implementation in the practice. His major projects include the delivery of tender information for the Aylesbury First Development Site and design development of the Belgrave & Grosvenor Road estate.

Prior to joining HTA, Alex studied for his MArch in Architecture and Town and Regional Planning, graduating with distinction and awarded a commendation in architectural management and the Robert Henry Memorial Prize. Two essays, on the governance of UAVs in civilian environments, and the effects of the economy of automation in architecture, have been published at part of wider research projects. During this period, he worked as a freelance designer alongside the Broomhill Forum on the BBEST area neighbourhood plan in Sheffield. Prior to his Part 2, Alex was employed at Innes Associates carrying out planning, construction and tender drawing packages across residential, educational, and mixed-use projects, both new build and refurbished. Notable projects included a technology college in central London and a mixed-use development in Norwich. Alex also worked briefly with the Shropshire council planning department, contributing to the consultation process of the draft SAMDev document, and in the validation of local rural planning applications.

In his time at HTA, Alex has worked on the planning stages for suburban housing developments in Lower Graylingwell, Essex; Filwood Park, Bristol; and King’s Hill, Kent. He has also worked with the planning team on Feering Neighbourhood plan. He has since specialised in post-planning stages. Notable working stage and construction projects include Stonebridge Site 27, Savoy Circus, and Holloway Road - the latter two volumetric construction schemes for Tide. He has assisted in the stage 3 development and tender issue of the Aylesbury First Development Site, West Green Place, Winstanley phase 0 and Belgrave & Grosvenor Road estate. He is keen on extending the use of BIM in post-planning projects and is a member of the BIM technology group looking to spread expertise amongst the Manchester team.

Alex is currently working on the design development of the Belgrave and Grosvenor Road estate, part of Croydon Brick by Brick's award-winning Small Sites Scheme. Supervising a small team based out of the Manchester office, he is leading the technical development of Block C, a 17-storey, 65-home flatted tower. His role includes the coordination of the design team and working with suppliers to achieve the concept design intent.
