Charles leads HTA’s Place Craft team, which specialises in low to medium-rise projects that provide characterful and sustainable new neighbourhoods reflective of the UK’s rich suburban tradition.
His interests extend from promoting large scale masterplans, which lay out the network of routes, spaces and amenities that structure new communities, through to outline applications and detailed/reserved matters submissions, where design responses re-interpret local tradition in in the context of the site.
Charles is skilled at finding a clear narrative for each design and communicating it to a range of audiences. The Place Craft teams caters to land promoters, national and local housebuilders, and SMEs, with Charles and his team focussed on maintaining design aspiration while understanding collaborative responses to the key technical, planning, and commercial drivers of the project.
He is closely involved in detail design and uses freehand techniques throughout the design process. He enjoys multi-disciplinary work and has strong relationships with the landscape, town planning and sustainability teams on HTA’s projects.
