Griffin Park

Griffin Park is a new residential development comprising of 149 homes with associated public realm and private amenity space. This development will provide a range of house and apartment typologies, with a large Green at the heart of the scheme. At the outset of this project the client set an ambitious brief requiring HTA to develop a set of design principles, these were; the scheme should be integral to the Brentford neighbourhood, provide a local amenity landmark, be cognisant to the site’s heritage and provide a breadth of community.

Developing these key principles evolved the scheme which aims to establish a new community, occupying high quality, purpose built housing for a range of family sizes. The central Green, private gardens and public realm will be stitched into the fabric of the surrounding neighbourhood, accessed from all four roads surrounding the site. The residents will live in an attractive environment, with a shared, central open green space and resident’s allotments, enhancing a sense of community and neighbourliness to the scheme. The proposal also incorporates flexible communal space at the ground floor of Building A along with an Estate Hub which services the site.

To capture a sense of place, character zones were identified within the scheme and used to inform the massing and appearance. As such, the buildings and roads have been defined as ‘The Green Apartments’, ‘The Mews’, the ‘North and South Streets’ and ‘Braemar Road’. Identifying these key zones breaks down the overall masterplan footprint providing numerous locations for activities that contribute to a strong community environment, as well as creating an increased permeability across the site for residents and visitors.
