Landscape Design

HTA Design recently completed the second phase of South Quay Plaza for Berkeley Homes, transforming a long-vacant site at South Dock and Millwall Cutting on the Isle of Dogs.

The 4.5-acre masterplan introduces three new residential buildings and 3 acres of public green space, revitalising a plot that had been closed to the public for over 20 years. Since 2015, our landscape team has optimised the site by designing slender building footprints and relocating all vehicular servicing underground, reclaiming over two-thirds of the site as a car-free public realm.

The latest tower, designed by Foster + Partners, features landscaped terraces that create three themed communal spaces, appearing as green ribbons along the façade with tree planting on all elevations. The Bamboo Sanctuary on Level 18 incorporates an outdoor spa, while the iGarden on Level 37 provides outdoor workspaces. At Level 55, the Sky Meadow offers social and relaxation areas with panoramic views.

At street level, the project has transformed the area into a flourishing biodiverse parkland with waterside gardens, over 320 mature trees, and a 500% biodiversity net gain. New pedestrian and cyclist routes repair the urban fabric, enhancing connectivity across the Isle of Dogs.
