The Gilbert

HTA Design delivered Greystar’s new European HQ at The Gilbert, coordinating a bespoke fit-out with Morgan Lovell and Elizabeth Stuart from concept to completion. The result is a refined workspace featuring curated art, tailored finishes and a complex steel-and-stone spiral stair.

Architecture

Greystar commissioned HTA to design their new offices within ‘The Gilbert’ on Finsbury Square, London. Designed by Gilbert Scott in 1930, the building provides a fitting backdrop for Greystar’s new European headquarters.

The team was involved from early design proposals through to tender documentation and continued as design custodian once Morgan Lovell was appointed as the fit-out contractor. A client briefing change in the early on-site stages led to a shift in the ground floor layout and functionality, which HTA coordinated closely with Morgan Lovell to implement seamlessly.

We also collaborated with U.S. based design firm Elizabeth Stuart, who oversee the Greystar brand’s corporate design identity, leading the selection of key finishes and coordinating bespoke installations. These included custom hand-blown glass lighting from Venice and curated artwork by mid-century artist Halsey, all of which contribute to a workspace reflective of Greystar’s values and culture.

Interior Design

The final design integrates impressive feature elements, including an expansive leather-clad reception desk, floor-toceiling walnut wall panelling, and a steel-and-stone spiral staircase. Developed from initial sketches through to completion in collaboration with HTA Interior team and a specialist contractor, the centrepiece spiral stair posed unique structural challenges. Its freestanding helical design required extensive coordination within the existing building, as well as a precise, sequential installation procedure to ensure the 12-ton structure was completed to the highest standard.
