Antony House & Roderick House is unanimously approved

Southwark’s Planning Committee last night unanimously approved our rooftop extension and infill proposals for Antony House & Roderick House in Bermondsey. “The benefits outweigh the departure from policy” was the consensus after much debate by Councillors on housing mix.

An innovative combination of rooftop extension and infill development creating 30 new additional homes above, in between and at the ‘bookends’ of a pair of four storey existing 1950s flat blocks. The scheme is 100% affordable for Lambeth and Southwark Housing Association and Apex Airspace. All the existing flats will be retained with residents in situ.

Two community engagement events were held, through which much needed improvements were highlighted and incorporated into the scheme such as a new lift, improved communal lighting, new bins stores, cycle storage and a redesigned landscaped forecourt.

The design creates an animated roofline between the various additional elements and high quality materials have been proposed to complement and tone with the existing building, in turn enhancing the existing street scene. Offsite manufacture solutions are proposed as a means of minimising disruption to the existing residents.
