HTA@50 - Aylesbury Estate
The truly heroic scale of the Aylesbury Estate, with more than 2700 homes, supports claims of it being the largest public housing estate in Europe. Problems with the complex layout and the innovative but unsophisticated building system created difficulties for residents and the council from the outset
The Aylesbury Area Action Plan of 2010 established key design principles for redevelopment and set enhanced quality standards for the new housing. The HTA masterplan evolved from further consultation with the existing residents including our Assemble and Join micro-manufacturing project.
The new network of streets and squares, will enable a more varied built form of terraced houses and mansion blocks to deliver more than 3500 new homes
