Living your best life - HTA celebrates the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence 30 years on

HTA, Greenwich Builds, Durkan, and Thomas Tallis School have all joined together to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Stephen Lawrence's death and to celebrate the potential of young people in Kidbrooke, London. A group of Year 8,10,11 and 12 students learned about Stephen's story from HTA while helping to create a mural to honour his legacy. The design has now been installed on hoardings around our Kidbrooke Park Road housing scheme in Southeast London. In an exciting unveiling yesterday we were able to capture the student’s immediate reactions to the hoarding that they’d been able to create.

'Getting to work with a bunch of people and creating something together that is important and for a good cause was important for me. It was very nice being in a classroom all together like that. We don't get to do this very often, so coming across new groups of students for a very special cause was very good. It was very nice to just sit down, make art and focus on the positivity, how you can bring communities together and look forward to a better future. I would love to do something like that again. It feels more important and more substantial than it usually does, it was a very cool experience that happened to me, and I really enjoyed it.' – Year 10 student from Thomas Tallis school

The students did amazingly well being interviewed by multiple television & radio broadcasters and we are so proud of the outcome.

The principles of diversity, equity and inclusion are fundamental to how we work at HTA and the projects we deliver. We have established a culture that promotes inclusion across all our creative endeavours and aims to inspire everyone we work with. We recognise there is significant scope to make a positive change for the good of society through our social housing and estate regeneration schemes. We have a long-standing relationship with the former Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, and many of our staff members have been involved in the former Trust's programmes and initiatives. We are also committed to offering opportunities to aspiring young designers as part of our social value outreach programme. As a result, we feel we should continue to honour Stephen Lawrence and his legacy on the 30th anniversary of his death on April 22nd, 2023.
