Natalya Palit from HTA's Planning team, wins RTPI's bi-annual travel grant
Natalya Palit from HTA's Planning team has been awarded the 2018/19 George Pepler International Award by the RTPI. Natalya was presented the award on the 23rd of January 2019 at the RTPI’s General Assembly. The George Pepler Award is a bursary granted to a person in their first 10 years post qualification experience wishing to undertake a short period of study on a particular aspect of spatial planning.
Natalya won for her submission entitled 'What can the UK learn from Vienna with regards to adopting a gender mainstreaming approach to shape built outcomes?' Gender mainstreaming is the integration of the gender perspective into every stage of the policy processes – design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation – with a view to promoting equality between women and men. Vienna is a global capital leading the way in this respect, having begun integrating the approach into their planning processes since the early 1990s. The city has a whole municipal department dedicated to “Women’s Affairs,” which has had most impact within urban planning.
Natalya is thrilled that she has been given the opportunity to pursue research enabling her to broaden her knowledge of an area of planning knowledge of particular interest to her. She is incredibly grateful to both the RTPI for selecting her submission and awarding her the grant, and to HTA Design for their encouragement and support.
John Acres, the outgoing RTPI President presented her the award and noted her submission sounded “innovative.”
