The Portal receives planning approval

The Portal, which was originally granted planning permission in May 2017, has been amended following consultation with the GLA and LB Ealing to provide the same level of Affordable Housing overall (35%), but with a broader range of tenures including London Affordable Rent, London Living Rent and Discount Market Rent. Additionally, the scheme has been amended to comply with current planning policy and building regulations including updates to the Fire Safety, Play Space and Energy & Sustainability strategies.

The amended scheme will deliver 350 new homes (a reduction from 355 units) of which 118 will be provided as Affordable Housing (an increase from 116 units). The ground floor has been reconfigured to provide a new residential entrance and lobby connecting to a new lift core that has been inserted into the building helping to improve access and circulation and aid building management. The amended scheme sees a reduction in car parking but increase in cycle parking accommodated within a reconfigured basement level promoting a more sustainable mode of travel. The residential floorplates have been reconfigured to provide a greater proportion of family sized homes within the London Affordable Rent tenure. The landscaped roof terraces have been reconfigured to provide additional play space whilst also accommodating Air Source Heat Pumps that will provide the development with heat and hot water, replacing the previously proposed gas fired CHP and tackling local air quality and carbon reduction.
