Wayfinding & Place Identity

HTA was commissioned to develop a comprehensive wayfinding and signage strategy for The Rex. The design approach is deeply rooted in the site’s cinematic Art Deco legacy, drawing direct inspiration from the building’s architectural motifs, specifically the rhythmic arched forms that define the façade and interior spaces.

The wayfinding brand utilises a dramatic, stylised typeface and a refined metallic colour palette, ensuring the signage feels like an integrated piece of the building’s architecture rather than an applied afterthought. Working collaboratively with the Interior Design team, we implemented bespoke graphic wall patterns in the corridors and amenity areas, which serve both as aesthetic enhancements and essential navigational cues.

Central to the strategy is a commitment to the building’s Fitwel 3-Star Wellness certification. We have adopted an active navigation approach: the signage strategy subtly promotes movement by highlighting the use of stairs over elevators. This includes nudges in the form of step counting and floor-numbering graphics integrated into the staircase design, turning functional transition spaces into purposeful, healthy interventions.
