Tom Simpson


BArch (Hons), PG DipArch, ARB

Tom joined HTA in 2011 and works as an Architect on multiple residential and mixed-use schemes of varying size and complexity from initial concept design through to technical and site stages.  His experience includes masterplanning, estate regeneration, built-to-rent, new build, office-to-resi as well as working with RSLs, developers and local authorities across the United Kingdom.

Tom has also taken a leading role in coordinating the Edinburgh team’s business to business development, our bids + frameworks programme for projects in Scotland and the North of England as well as running the Edinburgh team’s CPD programme.

Prior to joining HTA, Tom studied at Edinburgh College of Art in association with the University of Edinburgh and completed his PG DipArch in Architecture and Urbanism with a focus on masterplanning in metropolitan areas including the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City and Chicago, Illinois. 

Professionally, he has worked in a variety of design offices in Scotland including Arcade Architects on bespoke housing, residential developments and large scale commercial schemes such as the luxury golf resort Pittormie Castle near to St Andrews for the Eden Club.

At present, Tom is working on:

Block 1, Winstanley and York Road Estate Regeneration (239 homes) – Winstanley & York Rd Regeneration LLP

Tom is the Project Architect for the largest block within the application that will deliver 239 high quality private homes across two landmark towers at 32 storeys and 21 storeys respectively along with a commercial building suitable for retail and office space. These three buildings are connected to a community and leisure facility by LA-Architects at the lower levels and altogether form Block 1.

Greenford Green, Ealing, London (1965 homes) – Greystar

Tom helped to coordinate the original planning application and develop proposals for this Built to Rent masterplan for 1965 homes and commercial space across 8 blocks that involved a large multi-disciplinary team including four other architectural practices.  In addition to this, he worked on Stage 3 for Block 5 that will provide 379 apartments when completed and is still involved in the ongoing planning amendments.

Ballards Lane, Finchley, London  (54 homes) – Aitch Group

Tom is currently leading on proposals for high quality commercial space and 54 apartments across two new buildings at the site of a former police station.

Castleward Phase 2, Derby (Permission for 150 homes) – Compendium Living

Tom coordinated the planning application for three sites forming Phase 2.  Following this, he has assisted on the working drawings package for one of the sites that will provide more sought-after homes in the residential led urban regeneration of Castleward in Derby.p
